WHAT MY GUESTSÂ THINK

I first met Clarence from CG Snowboarding in 2010, whilst he was working as a young snowboarding instructor for Resorts of the Canadian Rockies (RCR) in Fernie. 14 years on and still I return to Clarence for coaching, he’s definitely the go to snowboarding guru for a reset every season. As a level 4 snowboarding coach Clarence has a depth of knowledge and understanding relating to the technical side of snowboarding that is second to none. Blended harmoniously with his snowboarding skills is his unique style of coaching.
The analogy I like to use is that Clarence coaches snowboarding like a builder constructs a house. Commencing with the foundations Clarence is steadfast in ensuring the foundations are perfect, he won’t move on to the next stage of the snowboarding development build until the foundations are secure, sound and true. Then he commences the brick work; patiently putting one technician brick down at a time, if a brick won’t align, he’ll keeping manipulating it, tweaking, taping, checking its level until he’s established what works to make that technical brick move into the right position (after all we’re all different right, Clarence understands this, so he doesn’t have a one size fits all approach to coaching) when he’s completely happy that brick's perfectly aligned he’ll put the next brick down, and the next, and the next… So as a client what this means is that techniques are worked on in isolation, there’s no scatter gun approach, so no confusion as to what needs to been done in order to improve or develop. Once a technique is mastered, on to the next, and the next at the same time reinforcing what has been developed previously to ensure there’s no slipping back into old habits.

My riding has improved exponentially since meeting Clarence. I can confidently ride anything and anywhere. I might not always be the most stylish rider on the mountain, but I do know, thanks to Clarence, I have the skills to have fun and stay safe and that’s enough for me.
All too often in the past I had coaches who were mediocre in terms of skills, poor in their ability to evaluate and inept at executing drills to enable me to rectify 30 years of bad snowboarding habits. With Clarence it not just a job it’s a passion, he lives and breathes snowboarding and his goal is to pass that passion and enthusiasm on to all his clients, no matter how young or old they are. So give CG snowboarding a try, you won’t regret it.
